Vic’s Top 5: Super Hero Fights

No 5 – Wolverine vs Lady Deathstrike

From “X -Men 2”  (Bryan Singer)

This is just one long, bad ass showdown, gang.

No 4 – The Avengers vs Loki

From Marvel’s The Avengers (Joss Whedon)

Stupendous, long and elaborate. Just incredible to watch and the replay value is endless. The Hulk and gang do what it takes to stop Loki and his death army. Even if it means destroying all of Manhattan.

No. 3 – Superman vs General Zod

From Superman II (Richard Lester and Richard Donner (Donner Cut))

Over the top and a lot of fun. This fight has stayed with me for all these years since I first watched in awe as Superman (Christopher Reeve) gives Zod and his cronies a run for their money. Some of the best staged fights ever. All done with-out CGI as well.

Superman gets a bus thrown at him. Superman gets a manhole cover thrown at him and Zod gets thrown like a baseball into a huge neon sign . Oh and lets not forget that great kick from Superman that sends Nom into an antenna array on top of a skyscraper. Great shit. I love it. Even though it looks a bit dated and phoney it still rocks.

No 2 – The Hulk vs The Abomination

From The Incredible Hulk (Patrick Lussier)

Holy Shit. Is this fight ever BRUTAL. First Banner falls from a helicopter and hits the concrete at like a gazillion miles an hour and changes just in time to come out from under the street roaring and ready for battle. The Abomination, though, give The Hulk a run for his money. (I keep saying that don’t I?) They cause huge destruction and mayhem with this fight in (where else?) Manhattan.

Each one gets a turn in being pounded into ground beef. At one point the Hulk uses 2 halves of a car as boxing gloves. Just epic. The Abomination batters, bites and pounds just a good as he gets. It’s a satisfying and robust fight that is realistically brutal. Hulk Smash!

No 1 – Spider-Man vs Doctor Octopus

From Spider-Man 2 (Sam Raimi)

Wow. Where do I begin? A completely bad ass, awesomely choreographed super fight scene. Flawless and brutal. From start to finish the action is fast, realistically rendered using CGI and the train sequence is astounding. It felt so much like I was reading a live Spider Man comic. I was breathless the first time I watched it. Definitely a fantastic highlight of the series. Watch it soon if you never have or if you want to refresh your memory.

Honorable Mention

Batman vs Bane – The Dark Knight Rises

The Joker vs Batman – The Dark Knight

The X-Men vs Sebastian Shaw – X-Men First Class

Spider Man vs The Green Goblin – Spider-Man

Captain America vs The Red Skull – Captain America: The First Avenger

Sound off, gang, with your favorite Super Hero fights! I’m sure I’ve missed some…

      • I Was Just Happy As All Hell To See “SUPERMAN II” Get Some Much Due Love!
It’s My All-Time-FAVE For Superhero Flicks.
You Just Keep Doin’ What You’re Doin’, Dude. It’s WORKING! hehehe

      • Man, I remember first watching that scrap on the big screen and I recall when Superman knocked Nom through the street and straight through a building the crowd went bonkers. Just awesome stuff and like I said…no CGI.

  1. Nice. I agree with most, but maybe not the Spider vs. Doc.

How about any of the long drawn out fight scenes between Blade & the Vampire, in any 3 movies?
Although… does he qualify as a ‘Super Hero’ ? 😐

  2. Nice picks, I’d also add the Bane vs. Batman fight in Dark Knight Rises, as well as Hellboy vs. Prince Nuada & the Golden Army since that one’s fresh in my mind. I liked the Superman 2 fight in the Donner cut a lot better than the Lester cut, they’re so similar but somehow the Lester cut felt a lot more fake and in slo-mo.

Oh, and how could you forget the epic fight between The Meteor Man and the leader of the Golden Lords? 🙂

    • I may just add those you suggested and make it a Top 10! All great fights and the Donner Cut fight in Superman 2 was epic. Bane vs Batman was very brutal. I loved it. So realistically done. Thanks for stopping by!
